If you’re anything like me, I love taking trips into other media that illustrate the life of a writer or artist: the day-to-day struggles, the victories, the stumbling blocks. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear easy to make writing exciting enough even for documentaries, at least not ones that are primarily biographies. So it’s not surprising that finding anything focused on the act of writing itself is a challenge.
Stumbling on a documentary about Ian Rankin, a best-selling crime novelist from the UK, was an interesting peek into how another writer operates. It’s nearly an hour long and goes quite deep into his methods of writing.
