Project Hail Mary

Project Hail Mary

I saw this nearly 500-page book at the bookstore. On a whim, I began reading. Less than 72 hours later, I was finished. It’s just that captivating.

I’ve been reading so much literary fiction and dense cyberpunk that I had forgotten what it’s like to read a book that is entertaining without trying to be too challenging. While Project Hail Mary throws scientific what-ifs at you nearly every other page, they are explained in layman’s terms that any ready even half paying attention would understand. While it’s packed with lots of sciency goodness, it’s also meant to be fun.

And boy is it fun.

Just because this book is easy to read doesn’t mean that it’s not well-written; on the contrary, I can’t imagine all the editing that went into this to keep such a wild sci-fi story fun for the masses, not just the geeks, of which I consider myself a card-carrying member.

This is my first Andy Weir book. I saw The Martian on screen but never picked up the book. Maybe I will some time, though. I really did enjoy this roller coaster of a ride.

I truly cannot describe what a fun, emotional story this is. If you’ve been stuck in a reading rut for a while, this is sure to pull you out. Oh, yeah. And there will be a movie next year. Starring Ryan Gosling. I loved him in Blade Runner, so I’ll definitely be checking it out when it’s released
